Here at Winter Haven Montessori, we believe in increasing your child’s chances of succeeding in school, therefore we are pleased to offer the high quality early learning education opportunities like VPK.
Florida offers a FREE VPK program for 4 year olds. All children living in Florida who turn 4 years old by September 1 are eligible.
This years VPK program begins on August 22, 2011. We offer a morning and afternoon class. The morning class is from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM M-F and the afternoon class is from 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM M-F. Space is limited, so get your children signed up now to reserve it.
We do offer a VPK Wrap program for $95 per week that is from 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM M-F. This includes the 3 hours of VPK and extended care to 5:30 PM
So how do you enroll your child in VPK?
STEP 1: Fill out an application by downloading a copy at www.elcpolk.org or pick up an application at one of the following enrollment locations:

STEP 2: Show a copy of your child’s birth certificate and proof of residency (like a copy of your utility bill or bank statement) to one of the enrollment counselors at the VPK location nearest to you.
STEP 3: Choose a program. VPK is offered in your community by early childhood education providers in private and faith-based centers, family child care homes and public schools. Check the www.elcpolk.org web site for a current list of VPK programs in your area.

How much does it cost to enroll in a VPK program?
The VPK program is FREE for eligible children, regardless of family income. Some programs may charge additional fees for more hours and their rates vary by program.
Will the VPK program provide transportation?
No. Parents are responsible for the transportation of their children to and from the VPK program, though some providers may offer transportation services.
Where can my child attend VPK?
First, check with the child care facility your child currently attends. Chances are, your child can stay right where they are.
What will VPK offer my child?
This program focuses on early education and is designed to prepare your child to enter school. All VPK instructors must have a minimum of a Child Development Associate for the school year program, or a Bachelor’s degree for the summer program. Ratios are 1 instructor to 10 children. Class size will not exceed 18 children. With all of these benefits, your child receives a quality education to help them succeed in school and life.
How many hours will my child attend the VPK class?
You can choose a program for 540 instructional hours during the school year or 300 hours during the summer. Each provider has the opportunity to design a daily schedule to meet these required hours.
Will my child be required to attend class every day?
VPK is a scholastic program and attendance is required. If too many days are missed, your child may not be able to complete the program. Your child care provider will give you their attendance policy and the state guidelines for absences.
